Statipstics - part i
Here are some Tipster statistics ("statipstics") for the curious or bored...
Of the 64 matches played during the 2022 World Cup:
Correct Score:
The Correct Score was tipped in 30 matches. At 47%, this is lower than the 57% success rate from Euro 2020 and the 2018 World Cup.
The most successful matches were the France - Morocco semi-final, with 8 people correctly tipping 2:0 for France; and the 3rd-place play-off, in which 8 people correctly tipped Croatia to beat Morocco 2:1.
Correct Margin:
The Correct Margin was tipped in 40 matches (63%, much higher than 2020's 53%, but lower than 2018's 67%). Ten people correctly tipped Senegal to beat Qatar by two goals, and ten people correctly tipped Germany to beat Costa Rica by the same Margin.
Correct Outcome:
There were 6 matches in which nobody tipped the correct Outcome: Argentina - Saudi Arabia, Morocco - Croatia, Wales - Iran, Japan - Costa Rica, Tunisia - France and Japan - Spain.
There were a further 5 matches where only one person tipped the correct Outcome (on 2 occasions, this was last-placed Simon).
First Scorer:
The correct First Scorer was tipped in 31 matches. The most popular correct choice was the Argentina - Australia game, in which 13 out of 18 people tipped Mr Messi to score first.
Points:
The Argentina - Australia game was also the one which yielded the most points, with a total of 156 being scored in that match.
There was one game in which no points were scored: Morocco - Croatia (during the Group Stages), which ended 0:0.
Goals:
A total of 64 goals were tipped for Argentina - Saudi Arabia (58 of them for Argentina). This game also had the greatest delta. It ended, however, with Saudi Arabia winning that match.
The fewest goals tipped was the Qatar - Senegal game, with only 30 goals tipped (2 of which were for Qatar.) That was not the fewest goals tipped for one team, however: only 1 goal was tipped for Qatar (by El-Hinny) in their game against the Netherlands.
The smallest delta was the Netherlands - Argentina match, with 25 goals tipped for each team; that game ended in a 2:2 draw.
What was the average first goal minute? How does it compare with previous editions?
ReplyDeleteThat comes in part 2, which I had planned to write up during a conference call, but that call was cancelled.
