Day 22 - Final Scoreboard

The 2022 World Cup Tipster finally comes to an end. André claims first place with a total of 297 points from 64 matches, improving on his second-place finish during Euro 2020. Tino, who came 16th in 2020, improved even more to take second place, with 284 points. Paul, consistently quite good, finishes third with 282 points. Craig leads the best of the rest, finishing fourth with 248 points, 6 ahead of Soeren and Christian who finished level on 242 points. Thorsten ended just 2 behind them in 7th place on 240, with Ben a further 5 points behind in 8th. Further down the table, it remained very close even at the end: Joris gained a total of 225 points to finish 9th, which is 1 point more than Alex and Robert achieved, and 2 more than Axel. El-Hinny was close behind on 219 points. Just 6 points separated Joris in 9th from El-Hinny in 13th. Tipster Cup: Final Report

The Final of the Tipster Cup took place between Christian and Tino. Christian tipped Croatia to beat Morocco 2:0, while Tino tipped Morocco to beat Croatia 2:0. That match ended with a 2:1 victor for Croatia. At half-time in the Cup Final, Christian therefore led by 5 points to nil. Tino correctly tipped a draw between Argentina and France, giving him 7 points for the correct Margin. He also tipped Messi to score the first goal for a further 3 points, bringing his total to 10 points. Christian tipped Argentina to beat France, and gained 5 points for tipping the correct winner; he also tipped Lionel Messi to score the first goal for a further 3 points, bringing his total to 13 points. At full-time, the score is: Christian 13 - Tino 10 As a result, Christian wins the Tipster Cup! Congratulations Christian!

Game 64 Report: Argentina - France

Argentina and France drew 3:3, before Argentina won the World Cup in a penalty shoot-out. The first goal was scored by Lionel Messi in the 23rd minute. Nobody tipped 3:3, but Robert and Tino both tipped a draw, giving them 7 points each. Six people tipped Argentina to triumph and gain 5 points each. Messi was tipped by seven people as first Scorer, giving them 3 points each. Alex tipped the exact Time for 3 points.

Correct Scores: André and Paul both tipped the Correct Score in 8 of the 64 matches during the Tipster, while Alex achieved this in 7 matches. Four people tipped the Correct Score in 2 matches. For comparison, in 2020, one person tipped the Correct Score in 9 of the 51 matches. Correct Margin: Tino tipped the Correct Margin in 13 matches, almost a quarter of the total. Simon did not tip the Correct Margin at all, but he only tipped 19 of the 64 matches. Correct Outcome: Joe tipped in favour of the winning team in 23 matches, more than anybody else. Unfortunately, he only tipped the Correct Score twice and the Correct Margin three times, so it didn't earn him that many points. Being Right: André tipped the correct winner in 41 matches. Before the tournament began, we all made some forecasts. With the benefit of hindsight, we can now see how good (or bad) those were... Semi Finalists: 15 people tipped Argentina to reach the Semi Finals, and 13 people tipped Brazil. Nine people tipped Germany, while eight people tipped France and seven tipped Spain. There were 5 votes each for the English and the Dutch. There was also one tip each for Cameroon, Denmark, Portugal, Uruguay and the USA, with 2 for Mexico, and 3 for Belgium. Nobody tipped Croatia or Morocco. Winner: Six people tipped Brazil to win the World Cup. Five tipped Argentina: well done Christian, Craig, Franzi, Joris and Paul. Two people (Alex and André) tipped France. Mexico, Spain, Poland, Germany and Belgium each received one vote. Here are some Tipster statistics ("statipstics") for the curious or bored... Of the 64 matches played during the 2022 World Cup: Correct Score: The Correct Score was tipped in 30 matches. At 47%, this is lower than the 57% success rate from Euro 2020 and the 2018 World Cup. The most successful matches were the France - Morocco semi-final, with 8 people correctly tipping 2:0 for France; and the 3rd-place play-off, in which 8 people correctly tipped Croatia to beat Morocco 2:1. Correct Margin: The Correct Margin was tipped in 40 matches (63%, much higher than 2020's 53%, but lower than 2018's 67%).
